Meir Shalev was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 1943. He served in the Israeli Defense Forces for four years and studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (M.A. in history and Ph.D., history and political science). He is the author of several novels and short stories, and has written a number of articles, essays, and book reviews
His books include: The House of David; The Second Son; The Opposite; The Secret; The Man from the Sea; The Last Son; A Babylonian Love Tale; The King's Servant; In the Valley of Shadows.
